Course Description:

The world of pediatric dentistry can be dynamic, challenging, and unique. This lecture is for dentists looking to enhance their knowledge of treating young patients and will highlight the differences when assessing and treating pediatric patients. Key areas of focus include the diagnosis and management of common pediatric dental conditions, exploring the different modalities of sedation and their indications, as well as the short and long term management of dental trauma.

Learning Objectives

• Understand the unique anatomical and physiological differences in pediatric patients that impact treatment planning and dental treatment.
• Identify common pediatric dental conditions and their management strategies, including caries prevention and management.
• Learn principles of treatment planning in pediatric dentistry, including comprehensive care and interdisciplinary approaches when necessary.
• Review current guidelines and best practices for behavior management techniques in pediatric dental settings.
• Review immediate and long-term management strategies for dental trauma in pediatric patients, including assessment, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment interventions.

Speaker Biography:

Dr. Laura Vertullo was born and raised in Montreal. She graduated from McGill University with her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree and then went on to complete her general practice residency in 2015 at The Hospital for Sick Children.

Dr. Laura completed her paediatric specialty training and Master’s degree from the University of Toronto and is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. She has a particular interest in treating children with special needs and was a staff pediatric dentist at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

Dr. Laura currently practices and co-owns Kids Corner Medical & Dental in Oakville and is a clinical instructor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry.
