Course Overview:

This course transforms foundational concepts into practical, universal applications for dental practice. This course focuses on the "how," detailing the implementation of AI that applies across all dental settings. It provides hands-on guidance for integrating AI in three key areas: diagnostic imaging enhancement, clinical documentation through AI scribes, and effective prompt engineering. The module demonstrates real-world applications in patient care, treatment planning, and practice efficiency while addressing common implementation challenges. It concludes by examining future implications and providing concrete steps for identifying and mitigating unintended consequences of AI regardless of practice type or location.

The How

Objective: To equip dentists with hands-on strategies for integrating AI into their practice effectively and safely, while addressing and mitigating risks associated with its unintended consequences.

Learning Objectives

1. Implement AI Tools in Clinical and Administrative Practices

◦ Provide guidance on incorporating AI tools into clinical workflows, including patient diagnostics, administrative efficiencies, and patient engagement.

◦ Offer practical examples, such as AI-assisted diagnostic imaging for identifying caries or periodontal disease, and automated charting or billing processes .

2. Identify and Mitigate Unintended Consequences

◦ Discuss risks such as AI-induced biases, data security challenges, and potential disruptions to patient-doctor relationships.

◦ Outline steps to manage these risks, emphasizing human oversight, patient consent, and ethical use of AI in clinical decision-making .

3. Evaluate AI Tools for Safe and Effective Use

◦ Equip dentists with a protocol for selecting and evaluating AI tools, focusing on reliability, alignment with practice standards, and ongoing monitoring.

◦ Stress the importance of continual AI performance reviews and evidence-based validation to ensure patient safety and quality care.

Module Content Highlights

  • Hands-On AI Applications and Workflows: Specific guidance for integrating AI technologies into common clinical scenarios, such as diagnostics and patient interaction.
  • Risk Mitigation Techniques: Key methods for minimizing liability risks and ethical challenges, ensuring AI’s responsible use.
  • Evaluation and Monitoring Protocols: Practical steps for dentists to assess AI tools' effectiveness and compliance with clinical and ethical standards.

Presenter’s Bio:   Dr. Peter C. Fritz B.Sc., D.D.S., Ph.D. (Perio), F.R.C.D.(C), M.B.A., LL.M., LL.M.

Dr. Fritz transforms healthcare at the intersection of clinical excellence, technology, and law. As Chair of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada's Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Digital Technology, he is pioneering frameworks for AI integration that are reshaping patient care across North America. He holds two Global Professional Master of Laws (GPLLM) degrees from the University of Toronto, one in Innovation, Law and Technology (2022) and another in Canadian Law (2025), an MBA from Kellogg/Northwestern, and a PhD in molecular biology. Dr. Fritz's multidisciplinary expertise positions him as a trailblazer in the field.

At his internationally recognized multi-specialty practice in Fonthill, Ontario, Dr. Fritz has created a "living laboratory" that serves as a model for next-generation healthcare delivery. Here, he seamlessly integrates advanced technologies such as AI-powered diagnostic imaging and automated patient workflows while maintaining the essential human elements of care. His comprehensive global benchmarking—spanning 40 world-class clinics across 25 countries—has established new AI adoption standards that prioritize clinical excellence and patient safety.

As an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University's Medical School and Adjunct Professor at Brock University's Centre for Bone and Muscle Health, Dr. Fritz combines research and teaching to advance the ethical and effective use of AI in healthcare. A sought-after innovator and mentor, he is shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals through his commitment to responsible innovation. His guiding philosophy, "Give me success or its eternal pursuit, and I'll take the pursuit," embodies his vision for healthcare transformation that enhances both clinical excellence and compassionate care.

Please note that the lecture will begin promptly at 6:45 pm. Attendees who arrive 15 minutes late or more will not be eligible for Category 1 credits.
