Course Overview:

This course includes interactive case-based dental office medical emergency scenarios that review recognition of abnormal vital signs, the equipment and supplies required for managing an evolving crisis, the decision for EMS transfer and the continuum of care in hospital.

Participants may bring a Wi-Fi–enabled personal electronic device (smartphone or tablet) to participate in optional online posting during the case presentations. Simple and clear strategies for the management of a crisis in the dental office will help you to feel confident in crisis management.

Learning Objectives
  • Discuss a systematic approach to patient evaluation.
  • Discuss rescue drugs and understand their delivery.
  • Understand initial hospital-based care for patients requiring urgent transfer.

Presenters Bios:   

Dr. Carilynne Yarascavitch is a graduate of the University of Toronto (DDS 2004, MSc 2008) and is a Dentist Anesthesiologist based in Toronto, Ontario. She is a certified Course Director and Instructor in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. She previously served as an Assistant Professor and Program Director for Dental Anesthesia at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry. She works in both a hospital-based setting within the Department of Dental and Maxillofacial Sciences at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and a community-based setting at Dentistry…Asleep in Yorkville. Her clinical practice helps medically complex, anxious and special care patients access safe, comfortable dental treatment.

Dr. Alec Yarascavitch is a graduate from McMaster University (MD 2010), with residencies in Family Medicine (2012) and Emergency Medicine (2013). He completed his JD and MBA at the University of Toronto Faculties of Law and Rotman School of Management (2018). He is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at McMaster. He practices Emergency Medicine at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and is a Partner at Lerners LLP in Toronto, where he practices in the areas of Health Law, Professional Regulation, and Personal Injury.


Please note that the lecture will begin promptly at 6:45 pm. Attendees who arrive 15 minutes late or more will not be eligible for Category 1 credits.
